INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW(LAWS823)

This course is taught at Nigerian Army School of Legal Studies (NASLS), designed to expose Nigerian Military officers to the principles of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) governing armed conflicts, both internal and international. This course focuses on the meaning and Nature of IHL, Sources of IHL, and the international conventions dealing with different situations in armed conflict and the protection of the injured and Prisoners of war as well as civilian population and objects. The role of international organisations such as International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is also addressed.

Nursing, Ethics and Jurisprudence(NURS 424)

Taught at the ABU Distance Learning Centre, this course introduces nursing students to the critical legal and ethical parameters of their practice. It covers core ethical principles, professional codes of conduct, and key areas of law, including the Nurse Practice Act, informed consent, patient confidentiality, and legal liability (negligence and malpractice).

Business and Company Law(BUAD 808)

This course for the ABU Distance Learning Centre's business program provides a comprehensive overview of the legal environment of business in Nigeria. It examines the law of contract, agency, and partnerships, with a significant focus on company law, including the formation, management, and dissolution of companies under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).

Law of Contract

This foundational course explores the legal principles governing enforceable agreements. It covers the formation of a contract (offer, acceptance, consideration, intention), the contents of a contract (terms, representations), factors that can invalidate a contract (mistake, misrepresentation, duress), and the remedies available for a breach of contract.

Equity & Trusts

This course is divided into two parts. The first part examines the historical development and principles of Equity, including its relationship with Common Law, the maxims of equity, and equitable remedies like injunctions and specific performance. The second part focuses on the Law of Trusts, covering the creation of express trusts, charitable trusts, resulting and constructive trusts, and the duties and powers of trustees.

Law for Engineers(QTYS 421)

This course provides engineering students with an essential understanding of the legal framework relevant to their profession. It introduces the Nigerian legal system and focuses heavily on the Law of Contract, which is critical for project management, and also covers aspects of professional ethics, liability, and the regulations governing the engineering profession in Nigeria.
